Metal Valley Shingle Roof
How to shingle a valley with architectural shingles.

The underlayment is an integral part of every valley and provides a waterproof base all valley installations require appropriate underlayment layers. However the hole that is created from the nail may eventually leak. Fold the top over the roof ridge and cut the bottom along the drip edge metal. Ensure ice and water protector has been installed along the valley first.
Then starting at the base of the valley center your first piece of flashing in the valley. Then install a non corrosive metal valley flashing of 24 minimum width lap successive sheets of metal flashing a minimum of 12 inches and seal laps. It is made of galvanized steel and will not rust. As a single component in the entire system a metal valley effectively protects other parts of your roof including shingles roof felt and the roof deck.
With an open valley a strip of metal will be visible on the roof wherever two opposing roof planes meet. Metal valley will last forever. First clean the debris out of the valley including sawdust nails and whatever else is in there. A chalk line is then used to strike a line from the top of the valley to the bottom of the valley.
To secure the roof valley flashing nail it down carefully. When all roof components are performing well a roof s lifespan is more likely to be maximized. Lay one and two tab shingles as you near the valley so full size shingles will run across the valley.
