Minimum Shower Door Width
Shower floor minimum size is usually mandated to be at least 30 inches square.
Minimum shower door width. Consist of two and sometimes three panels that slide along each other on tracks. To meet ada universal design standards plan on 34 of clear opening or a 36 door. Sliding door operation requires no floor space for opening door. That is 30 inches by 30 inches.
When designing your shower enclosure keep in mind that each glass panel needs to be at least 4 1 2 wide which is the minimum width for tempering glass and supporting the hardware. Because shower doors are usually glass and can break and because of other access issues bathroom code states that shower doors need to have at least 24 inches of opening clearance. Since 34 is not a standard door width most designers spec a 36 door which is not usually a special order. This dimension might be direct to stud or between two wall coverings.
When framing the alcove do not add any extra space to accommodate the shower tub. Doors should be at least 32 wide. Normally with smaller single frameless shower doors the glass thickness is 8mm this keeps both the weight and cost down. Alcove shower bathtubs commonly are 60 inches wide and their bypass or sliding doors are usually about 58 inches.
Ideal for wide openings with a typical opening of 60 inches wide. The realistic minimum shower door width tends to be 550mm when the space is perhaps tighter but when the customer still wants to make the most of the opening into the shower space. It must be exactly 60 inches. The minimum interior shower size is 30x30 inches or 900 square inches in which a disc 30 inches in diameter must fit.
The interior shower size is at least 36x36 inches.
