Minwax Stain Sticky
More humid the room the longer it takes to dry.
Minwax stain sticky. I did 2 coats on a banister within an hour. It s new minwax poly stain espresso colored. Active 2 years 10 months ago. After wiping off the excess it should be almost dry.
Anyway i put one coat on the door fronts yesterday and added a second coat on top of the light and it turned out the same color. Typically if minwax stain is still tacky after 4 6 hours there was too much stain left behind. Tonight after about 24 hours the dresser is still tacky and is not as dark as we d like. Minwax poly stain still sticky.
Also it dried quicker and it dried to a satin finish which is what it was. Ask question asked 3 years ago. We used a minwax stain and applied the minwax pre stain conditioner prior to staining. When the solvent evaporates all that remains is the pigment and the oil that is.
Minwax pre stain wood conditioner is specifically designed for use before staining new or bare soft and porous. Many soft or porous woods like pine fir spruce soft and maple alder and aspen porous have a tendency to absorb stain unevenly. We planned on using another coat or two of stain to darken the color but since it s humid where we live and we re doing this in our garage i m afraid of. Stain becomes sticky on a wooden surface because it doesn t have a binder such as you find in paint or varnish.
The varnish can be applied over the tacky stain. And will dry clear. Treating the wood surface with minwax pre stain wood conditioner helps prevent streaking and blotching to help ensure a beautiful even stain. I ve also used fast drying polyurethane varnish to seal the stain and help it to dry quickly.
